© с сайта ТПУ TOMSK, Oct 24 – RIA Tomsk. The graduate student of
Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) Artem Novokshonov together with colleagues
from Germany will improve the system of diagnostics of a bunch of one of the
most powerful sources of x-ray radiation in the world – the synchrotron PETRA
III, the press service of the university reported on Monday.
It is specified that the Tomsk graduate student and scientists of
National Laboratory DESY (the large physical center in Europe) work on
improvement of diagnostics system of the synchrotron PETRA III. DESY creates
accelerators of charged particles for various researches. On unique
installations physics of the whole world are experimenting, in practice
confirming their scientific theories.
PETRA III, according to the university, – is the source of the most
powerful in the world synchrotron and, in particular, x-ray radiation which
works at the base of DESY research center since 2009.
"The graduate student established and debugged on the synchrotron
PETRA III the interferometer of synchrotron radiation – the device for
measurement of the sizes of a bunch of charged particles in the synchrotron
accelerator. The device is already put into operation. In November Novokshonov
will go to Germany and will make together with DESY scientific experiments on
testing of new techniques of measurement of parameters of an electron
beam", – is said in the message.

It is added that measurement of parameters of the accelerated bunch of
particles – is one of the most important problems of the accelerating
equipment. Control and diagnostics of a bunch in the course of acceleration
allow to estimate operation of the accelerator.
"Adjusting the sizes of a bunch properly is necessary to calculate
intensity and other important parameters of x-ray radiation. These data allow
to set up precisely the accelerating equipment, including medical
devices", – the press service reported.
