TOMSK, Oct 25 – RIA Tomsk. Scientists of Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) plan to create the Russia's first tomograph able
to explore complex internal structure of medical and industrial objects due to
work with wave phase by 2018; the state support will amount more than 30
million rubles, the press service of the University reports on Tuesday.
It is specified that the tomographs used today work with amplitude of an
electromagnetic wave. They aren't capable to investigate objects with complex
internal structure. Tomographs of other type are necessary for this purpose.
"By 2018 polytechnicians will create the x-ray tomograph different
from those that are used today. The device will work not only with amplitude of
an electromagnetic wave, but also with its phase that will allow to receive much
more information on internal structure of the studied objects in medicine and
the industry", – is said in the message.

It is noted that in medicine such tomograph will help to monitor
restoration of internal tissues and impact of drugs on this process. Besides,
the device will be useful for diagnostics of composite products, for example
from carbon which are used in the aerospace, defensive industry and in nuclear
power.
According to the press service, technical capability to create similar
devices appeared only in the 2000s. Today in the world only several research
teams – in the USA, Japan and Europe work on their creation. They are financed
by large producers of the medical equipment – Siemens and Philips. In Europe
the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology is engaged in it which cooperate
polytechnics.
It is added that TPU scientific won a competition of the federal program
"Researches and Developments in the Priority Directions of Development of
a Scientific and Technological Complex of Russia for 2014-2020". Total
amount of the state support of the project on creation of the tomograph till
2018 makes 31 million rubles. Industrial partners among whom there is the Tomsk
company "EleSy" have to invest the same sum in the project.
