TOMSK, Oct 26 – RIA
Tomsk. Scientists
of Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) developed prototype of device, which is
capable to save electric power by its transfer on lines of high voltage; system
regulates tension depending on weather conditions and allows to avoid emergence
of corona discharge provoking big losses of energy, it is reported on the
website of the university.
It is specified that the energy saving system
developed by the staff of the TPU department of the electrical power systems is
intended for optimization of work of the large power lines having voltage of
500 kilovolts and above.
"By power transmission on power lines,
corona discharge arises, which provokes big losses of energy. Especially often
it occurs at change of weather conditions: humidity, frosts. We have developed
the device, which can automatically change tension at change of weather",
– the press service quotes one of participants of the project Arina Gumovskaya.

The device basis is the sensor fixing state of
the environment. Its indications are processed, and the system counts in what
range it is necessary to lower or increase the tension. Data are transferred to
the dispatcher, who makes the decision according to recommendations of the
system.
"Total length of the lines, having voltage
more than 500 kilovolts, in Siberia is thousands of kilometers. If to provide
all large power lines will be provided with such system, it is possible to save
millions of watts of power, changing tension on substations in the resolved
limits", – it is explained in the message.
Now polytechnicians realized the system in the
form of a prototype, which passes tests in TPU. Testing on power lines shall
become the following stage of testing of the device. "Regular accessories
– temperature sensors, microcontrollers are used. And the know-how consists in
the program, which we wrote", – the research supervisor of the project
Vera Shestakova is quoted.
