Tomsk, Karina Sapunova. The Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) and the Far
Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (FEB RAS) plan to create
robots with elements of artificial intelligence for studying of sea depths, to
explore the Arctic and to train experts together, the rector of the higher
education institution Pyotr Chubik told on Wednesday.
The framework agreement on cooperation between TPU and
FEB RAS was signed on Wednesday. The signature was appended by the rector Chubik
from the Tomsk higher education institution, the FEB RAS was represented by the
head of department, the vice-president of academy Valentin Sergienko.
"Today most of all unknown is in space and sea

He specified that the agreement and work within
"road map" will allow to strengthen the cooperation of the
organizations. In particular, implementation of joint master programs is
possible in addition to scientific activities.
In turn Sergienko noted that institutes of the FEB RAS
are interested in graduates of the Tomsk Polytechnic University because it is
the strongest technical university beyond the Urals and can train petrochemists
and other experts whom the Far East center needs, but they aren't trained by
local higher education institutions. Several Tomsk polytechnicians already work
in divisions of the Far Eastern.
Earlier it was reported that TPU and FEB RAS already
cooperate in studying of the Arctic and creation of underwater robots with the
Pacific Institute and the Institute of Marine Technology Problems. The Far East
scientists take part in Arctic expeditions together with polytechnicians. And
experts from TPU and the Institute of Marine Technology Problems of RAS created
independent submersibles.
