Earlier it was reported that the Armenian
diaspora intends to present to Tomsk the monument to Suvorov as "a tribute
to international friendship" and as a symbol of gratitude to residents of
Tomsk for the help after the earthquake in Armenia in 1988. It was planned to
establish the monument and to create the square at the Suvorov Street, at the
road technical school. The diaspora wanted to make it in 2016, but the city
hall of Tomsk suggested to establish the monument in the summer of 2017.
"The installation of the monument to the
great Russian commander Alexander Suvorov was agreed today by deputies during
another meeting of the duma of the city of Tomsk. Object of arts and crafts
will appear in the square at the street called in honor of the national hero.
<…> The monument represents a granite block pedestal with a carved cross
(Switzerland has a similar monument to the fallen Suvorov's soldiers in the
Alps) and a bronze bust of the commander", – it is said in the message.
It is noted that the regional Union of
Armenians sent the letter addressed to the mayor of Tomsk and reported that it
will also landscape the territory around the monument with its means.
"It is planned to asphalt paths, to arange
flower beds, to land 30 cedars, to establish benches in the square of 4,5
thousand square meters", – the press service of municipal duma adds.
