create website devoted to history of Civil war in Siberia and the Far East in
2017; largest collection of newspapers and magazines of 1918-1920 from funds of
the Scientific Library (SL) is basis of resource which will be available to a
wide range of readers for the first time, press service of TSU reports.
It is specified, Siberia and the Far East were the main arena of opposition
of white and red in 1918-1920. Each party sought to win round the population,
including withperiodicals. Several hundreds of newspapers and magazines were in
this territory in total. For creation of the website it is planned to digitize
about two thousand copies of periodical press of that time which is stored in
the fund.
"One of tasks of the project is identification and accounting of the
editions which aren't studied before as their exact number still is known to
nobody. We hope that the resource will attract interest of other libraries
where similar collections are stored, and also will be able to unite
researchers in this area", – the project manager Kirill Konev quoted in
the message.

According to TSU, the Siberian press of the period of revolution and Civil
war was available only to limited number of experts for a long time, after
creation of the website it becomes available to a wide range of readers.
Editions will be valuable sources for various cross-disciplinary researches
about Siberia, in particular for studying of mechanisms of formation of public
opinion.
It is added, library workers have already digitized 40% of the collection.
Future website, thanks to geoinformation layers, will allow to look at number
of editions on the cities, for a certain period, on ideological accessory, to
understand where "information war" between white and red developed.
The website is planned to be created in 2017 to the 100 anniversary of the
October revolution. The project is carried out with assistance of the research
center "Trans-Siberian Scientific Way" which task is to popularize
information on the past and the present of Siberia.
