Belozertsev. Employees of Scientific library of Tomsk State University (TSU)
will complete a course of classes in English; the program will allow librarians
of the higher education institution to communicate with foreign students and to
help them to be guided in the library, it is reported on the website of the
higher education institution on Thursday.
Earlier it was reported that more than 300
employees of TSU, including security guards and employees of public catering,
have completed English language courses by December 2016 according to the
special program of the higher education institution.
"Thanks to the project on increase in
linguistic competences the staff of the TSU Scientific library will start
speaking English. The course of trainings will be conducted for librarians that
they could communicate with foreign students and help to be guided with system
of reading rooms, to order editions from a book-depository and to use other
services", – it is said in the message.
It is added that the training will begin
in 2017. Also next year within the project on training of employees of TSU in
English a number of joint seminars with foreign students is planned that
employees of the higher education institution "could break a language
barrier and communicate more freely in English".

"Every eighth student is a foreigner
in TSU, therefore creation of the multilingual environment at the university is
needed. <…> Students communicate not only with teachers. <…>
Therefore as much employees as possible have to understand English and be able
to talk at least at basic level", – the press service quotes the Director
of the Center of Language Competences TSU Evgenia Pyatovskaya.
TSU is a participant of the 5-100 project
together with 14 higher education institutions of Russia which receive
subsidies for advance in the international ratings, the international
scientific and educational space. One of the most important criteria of
increase in the international competitiveness is involvement of foreign
students and teachers. The higher education institution annually increases the
number of entrants and students from abroad.
