took the third place among Russian universities in world ecological ranking
GreenMetric World Universities Ranking, the press service of the university
reports on Monday.
It is specified that the ecological ranking of higher education
institutions of the world is published by University of Indonesia since 2010.
The initiative of its developers is directed to drawing attention of the
academic public to the solution of environmental problems.
"In the general ranking Tomsk Polytechnic University took the 165th
place among 516 universities from 74 countries of the world. Among Russian
universities included in ranking, TPU took the third position", – is said
in the message.
It is specified that the ranking has six main criteria. These are
indicators of consumption and economy of energy, rational use of water
resources, storages and processings of waste, uses of environmentally friendly
vehicles, the area of green plantings in the territory of a campus is
estimated. Also indicators of educational and scientific activities for this
direction are considered.

It is noted that the subject of a resource efficiency is priority for
the university, by 2020 it intends to become the network center of superiority
in the field of resource-efficient technologies. Among TPU projects – there are
receiving high-octane Euro-4 and Euro-5 gasolines, additives for cars reducing toxicity
of exhaust gases. Also TPU scientists create water treatment complexes for
sewage treatment.
It is added that in TPU the strategic academic units (SAU)
"Ecoenergetics" and "Hardly removable natural resources"
for development of eco-friendly technologies of gasification and studying of
nonconventional resources of oil and gas
are created. In 2015 the university was awarded the Ministry of
Education and Science as one of most "thrifty" in the Russian
Federation, for equipment by the automated systems of heatconsumption of
educational buildings and dormitories.
