users from more than 15 countries of the world became trainees of online
courses of Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) in 2016; more six thousand people
learned about features of oil and gas business, geological processes and
engineering of the future on the platforms of open education in total, the
press service of the university reports.
It is specified that two TPU courses entered top-10
of the best practices of online courses of Russia in December 2016 according to
the platform of open education Lektorium, the educational portal Newtonew and
the national competition EDcrunch Award OOC 2016.
"Mass open online courses of Tomsk Polytechnic
University brought together over six thousand listeners from Russia, Germany,
the USA, Great Britain, Spain, Italy, Egypt, India, Pakistan and other
countries in 2016. Courses <…> were completed by Internet users from more
than 15 countries of the world in total", – it is said in the message.

It is noted that the courses took place on the
Russian Lektorium platform and the European Inversity. Within
"Introduction to oil and gas business" listeners learned about how
oil is formed, and about its production and processing. Participants of the
course saw the training ground of JSC Tomskneft in Strezhevoy and core library
of the Tomsk region. The course was taken by 1 972 participants at the
beginning, 2 560 people finished it.
"The first online course "Myths and
Reality of a Stone" started by Tomsk Polytechnic University brought
together 2 381 listeners. It took place on two platforms at once <...> in
English and Russian languages. Animation of geological processes, shootings of
minerals under a microscope were presented in video records of the
course," – the press service adds.
It is explained that participants of the
courses saw rare copies from a collection of the TPU mineralogical museum. More
than 100 people received certificates on successful training. Even more than
1,5 thousand people became participants of a new course the "Future
engineering" oriented to seniors: "Children learn how to earn in a
cyberspace with its help, and will try to design 3D models of elements of space
engineering".
The press service of TPU notes that start of at
least two mass online courses is planned in 2017, their subject will become
known later.
