TOMSK, Jan 24 – RIA Tomsk, Karina Sapunova.
Start of the first stage of production of beryllium in the city of
Krasnokamensk of Zabaykalsky Krai on the technology developed at Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) is planned for the end of the 2018th – the
beginning of 2019, the Vice Rector for Science of the university Alexander
Dyachenko reported on Tuesday.
Earlier it was reported that TPU scientists
received the order from the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian
Federation on development of the domestic fluoride production technology of
beryllium in 2013. The specialists managed to receive the first laboratory
batch of this metal for the first time in Russia at the end of 2014. It was
planned to create production together with an industrial partner "Rare
metals of Siberia" in Zabaykalsky Krai.
"We plan production designing for 2017, a
construction for 2018, and I plan to invite you to cut a ribbon at this entity
at the end of 2018 or in January, 2019. Plans are approved by the Ministry of
Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation and the Industrial Development
Fund", – Dyachenko told at the press conference in the RIA Tomsk media
center.
He specified that the act of the end of the
first stage implying development of the technology was signed with the Ministry
of Industry and Trade at the end of December, 2016. Oxide and hydroxide of
beryllium will be received at the entity of Rosatom in the city Krasnokamensk –
Priargunsky Industrial Mining and Chemical Union. Capacity of the first stage
of production is 100 tons per year in metal beryllium.

Dyachenko noted that the berylliumб which
remained in the Federal Agency for State Reserves, will be processed at the
beginning; at the same time beryllium production will be revived on the
Ermakovsky field, where it was conducted in the Soviet years . If own
production wasn't created in Russia, beryllium should be bought in the USA and
China in the next years.
"Russia can occupy 30% of the world market
– the former Soviet niche", – he added.
Beryllium is applied in the nuclear, aerospace
industry, mechanical engineering, in X-ray engineering, in production of laser
and fire-resistant materials, in creation of rocket fuel. Metal is used
generally as additive to alloys that allows to increase their hardness and
durability considerably. Now beryllium is made only in three countries:
Kazakhstan, China and the USA, which work with more expensive technology than
TPU offers.
