Earlier some media wrote that Rosatom allegedly suggested to waive construction
plans of the BREST-300 reactor because of an economic situation in the Russian
Federation. Rosatom specified that the state corporation doesn't plan to stop
construction, and initiated updating of the project. It will allow to lower
capital expenditure of the federal target program.
As follows from the materials, in the open competition "on the right to
let public contracts to perform research and development work" there are
six lots. Work should be done in 2017. The initial cost of each - from 66.29
million to 266.07 million rubles; in total amount Rosatom could spend to pay
for these works up to 1.13 billion rubles.
Rosatom suggests to perform studies of the main decisions of radioactive waste
handling of a experimental demonstration complex (EDC) of "Proryv",
the technological modes and design of the equipment for processing of the mixed
nitride uranium-plutonium (MNUP) spent nuclear fuel.

Also the state corporation orders research and development for creation of the
reactor on fast neutrons with the lead heat carrier, including production of
the model of the neutrons reflector block – an element around active zone which
prevents leakage of neutrons during chain reaction.
Follows the materials of the competition, it is planned to develop
constructional materials for reactors on the fast neutrons, fuel elements and
the heatallocating assemblies on the basis of dense MNUP-fuel, technology and
the equipment for a fabrication and refabrication of dense MNUP-fuel.
Rosatom since 2011 realizes at Siberian Chemical Plant the project
"Proryv" on creation of the latest fuel at which the nuclear power
will work after 2020. In Seversk (the closed satellite town of Tomsk) as a part
of PDPC there will be a reactor BREST-OD-300 installation with a station
nuclear fuel cycle, and also production of uranium - plutonium (nitride) fuel
for reactors on fast neutrons.
