TOMSK, Feb 15 – RIA Tomsk. The team of Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) reached the final of the competition
"CyberFraq Challenge" and now, united with colleagues of other
research teams, polytechnicians will begin to create the first domestic
hydraulic fracturing simulator, the press service of the university reports on
Wednesday.
It is specified that from more than 1,2 thousand applications sent to a
competition, the organizing committee chose 30 strongest research teams of the
country which presented the ideas and experience at an internal meeting on the
platform of Skolkovo Foundation in Moscow. Among them – there is team of TPU
scientists. Now finalists will unite in consortiums and will begin work on a
software prototype – hydraulic fracturing simulator.
"Now for modeling of cracks of hydraulic fracturing the Russian
companies generally use foreign software. The consortium which will be created
as a result of an internal meeting will be engaged in development of the first
domestic software for modeling of hydraulic fracturing", – the
representative of the TPU team, the advanced engineer of Oil and Gas
Engineering laboratory Lyubov Vorobyova is quoted.

According to her, hydraulic fracturing is carried out on the majority of
fields for increase in efficiency of oil production. Computer modeling by means
of which experts can "predict" what liquid to use for a fracturing,
what proppant to pump, and how the crack develops during creation of a certain
pressure is important here.
It is noted that uniqueness of a task on creation of the hydraulic
fracturing simulator demands association of a set of competences in geology,
programming, physics, modeling. For this purpose contestants will unite in
consortiums.
"Access to state support tools will be provided to winner
consortium of a competition, and also – support of institutes of development in
attraction of private investments. The team presented the best software will
become the winner of a competition and will receive public financing on
realization and further introduction of the project", – is said in the
message.
The "CyberFraq Challenge" competition is held with assistance
of the Industry and Trade Ministry, Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Telecom and
Mass Communications and Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian
Federation. The idea of holding a competition was supported by the Russian oil
and gas companies, and also by number of the advanced Russian scientific
organizations and companies. The competition is directed to creation of the
qualified design consortium of the Russian scientists for development of the
hydraulic fracturing simulator.
