TOMSK, Mar 8 – RIA Tomsk.Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU)
in the subject rating of Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) was among the best
universities of the world at once in five subjects and in one subject area,
which is breakthrough for the university, the press service of TPU reported on
Wednesday.

TPU and
Tomsk State University (TSU) in 2013 were included into the 5-100 project to which participants
additional financing for increase in the international competitiveness is allocated.
In 2017 to the Tomsk universities were allocated 482 million rubles. In the
subject rating of QS Tomsk universities improved their positions in such
subjects as physics and astronomy, chemistry and a number of humanitarian
directions.
It was reported, that TPU for the first time entered the rating on subject
domain "Engineering sciences and technologies", took the 390th place.
The university showed high positions in several subjects: in the direction of
"Chemical Engineering" it entered the group 201-250, in the
directions "Engineering - electrotechnical and electronic" and
"Engineering - mechanical, aviation and industrial" is located in the
group 251-300.
In the "Physics and Astronomy" direction TPU passed from group
301-400 where it was in 2016, to group 251-300. Also TPU for the first time
entered the group of the ranged higher education institutions on the
"Chemistry' direction in group 451-500.
"The results of the QS-2017 subject rating are encouraging: for the first
time we entered our specialized subject area "Technical science and
engineering", and at once on three subjects and immediately to high
positions - in one we are among top-250 leading universities of the world, on
two others - we are in top-300. This is a breakthrough. TPU confirms its status
of one of the best engineering universities not only in our country, but also
in the world", - the press service quotes the rector of the university
Petr Chubik.
In his opinion, the results of the QS-2017 subject rating allow to hope for an improvement
of TPU position in global QS World University Rankings-2017. "For us,
advancement in the subject ratings is very important, as since 2016 places in
them for universities - participants of the project 5-100 - became the
important indicator, as well as a position in the general rating", – the
rector told.
In total in rating 28 Russian higher education institutions are presented, in
2016 there were only 17. As well as last year, the leader among higher
education institutions of Russia – is the Moscow State University.
