TOMSK, Mar 8 – RIA Tomsk. The Quacquarelli Symonds rating
agency published the annual rating of higher education institutions on
subjects, Tomsk State University (TSU) improved positions both in humanitarian,
and in natural sciences, according to the management, such result is achieved
due to previously planned "growth points", the press service of the
university reported.

TSU and
Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) in 2013 were included into the 5-100
project to which participants additional financing for increase in the
international competitiveness is allocated. In 2017 to the Tomsk universities
were allocated 482 million rubles. In the subject rating of QS Tomsk
universities improved their positions in such subjects as physics and
astronomy, chemistry and a number of humanitarian directions.
It was reported that TSU in 2017 took the 328th place in the "Humanities
and Art" area, in "Natural Sciences" area entered the group
401-450. Also the university kept leadership positions in subject "Modern
languages" (251-300), and in subject domain "Chemistry" for the
first time entered in top-500. The university has risen by 50 points in
comparison with the previous year and entered the group of 201-250 best
universities of the world on the subject "Physics and Astronomy".
"In 2014 the university was presented in the rating by only four
directions, we planned growth points – intensively developing directions which
were supported by resources. And this year many of them, including
"Archeology", "Biology", "Medicine",
"Law", were for the first time included into this rating", – the
press service quoted the vice rector for scientific work of TSU Ivan Ivonin.
According to the university, the subject rating of QS entered 25 directions of
training of TSU in five fields of knowledge. In 2016 there were 19 such
directions.
As the rating agency reported, in 2017 subject rating include ranging on five
various subject domains: "Humanities and art", "Engineering
sciences and technologies", "Biological sciences and medicine",
"Natural sciences", "Social sciences and management". In
total in rating 28 Russian higher education institutions are presented, in 2016
there were only 17. As well as last year, the leader among higher education
institutions of Russia – is the Moscow State University.
