TOMSK, Apr 25 – RIA Tomsk. The federal authorities approved
the proposal of the administration of the region on placing the head office of
the created Vasyugan reserve in the Tomsk region, the press service of the
regional administration reported on Tuesday.
Earlier it was reported that in 2002 in the Tomsk region in the territory of
the Vasyugan swamp the wildlife area is created. And now in the territory of
the Tomsk and Novosibirsk regions the federal reserve where the wildlife area,
presumably, will completely enter is created. Work can come to the end in 2017.
The Tomsk authorities wanted the head office of the reserve administration to
be located in Tomsk.
As the press service reports, recently a letter from the Ministry of Natural
Resources of the Russian Federation addressed to the temporarily acting
governor of the Tomsk region Sergey Zhvachkin was received.
"With the taking into account the geographic location of the created
reserve, the availability of scientific research institutions in the region,
and the attention paid by the administration of the region to the conservation
and study of the Great Vasyugan mire, the Ministry of Natural Resources
supports the proposal <…> on placement of the institution
administering the reserve on the territory of the Tomsk region", – the

It is noted that now harmonization of the draft of the resolution of the
Government of the Russian Federation on establishment of the reserve
"Vasyugan" comes to the end. The document is already agreed by the
Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, Federal Agency for
Forestry, Federal Water Resources Agency, Ministry of Natural Resources and
Environment, and also sent to the Ministry of Finance of the Russian
Federation, Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation, administration of
the Tomsk region and the government of the Novosibirsk region.
According to the regional administration, the total area of the created reserve
makes 614,8 thousand hectares. From them 362,5 thousand hectares are located in
the territory of the Tomsk region
The Vasyugan swamp – is one of the biggest in the world, its most part is in
the Tomsk region, and also in the Novosibirsk and Omsk regions and Khanty-Mansi
Autonomous Okrug. It has all-planetary significance – reduces the concentration
of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. The territory
of the swamp – is 5,3 million hectares. In 2007 the Vasyugan swamp was included
in the preliminary UNESCO World Heritage List.
