8 – RIA Tomsk. "Openness to the world," which allows Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) to become more recognizable abroad, helped the university to
improve its positions in the ranking of the world's best universities QS World
University Rankings (Quacquarelli Symonds), the rector of TPU Petr Chubik
considers.
Earlier it
was reported that this year Tomsk Polytechnic University rose from 400 to 386
line in one of the most authoritative ratings of the best universities of the
world - the QS Rankings.
"This
year we showed good dynamics on the criterion "reputation among employers",
stepped at once on 71 positions up, by 34 positions we climbed on the
"academic reputation", 16 by "foreign students". It means
that our strategy of internationalization, openness to the world gives a
result, the university becomes more famous and recognizable abroad", –
Chubik told RIA Tomsk.
He added
that in the struggle for the place in the ratings, as in mountaineering,
"the closer to the top, the harder to take each step."

"The
situation can be best of all characterized by the words of Vysotsky's famous
song: "We cut the steps ... Not a step backward! And from tension knees
shake". "But in order to "cut the steps" faster, one must
bear in mind that the speed of advancement to the heights of university ratings
is a teamwork, and the result is fixed not by the first one, but by the last
comer", - the rector of TPU noted.
In his
opinion, now the university has to work to ensure that "all
polytechnicians realized the importance of personal contribution to the overall
movement, were involved in the process of achieving the goal". "In
united team everyone is working, not only the best. If we achieve this - will
appear both speed and new breakthroughs in the ratings", – he is sure.
TPU and
Tomsk State University since 2013 were included into the 5-100 project and
receive additional financing to increase international competitiveness. By 2020
within the framework of the project five universities of the Russian Federation
have to enter the top 100 of universities of the world.
