TOMSK, Jun
8 – RIA Tomsk.Tomsk State University (TSU) was able to improve its position in
the QS World University Rankings (Quacquarelli Symonds) due to rethinking of
the tasks facing the university and purposeful work on their solution,
conscious choice of partners and involvement in the development of the region,
considers the rector of the university Eduard Galazhinsky.
Earlier it
was reported that this year the university has risen from 377 to 323 line in
one of the most authoritative ratings of the best universities of the world -
the QS Rankings.
"The
QS Rankings is formed from six indicators, among which the the main share is
the expert survey of employers and academic community, citation and
"students-teachers" ratio, therefore the main goal of this year was to
achieve the relevant indicators in these areas", – said Galazhinsky.
He noted
that TSU augment its research potential (this is evident from the growth of
publications in the leading international journals - up to 50% of the total
number of articles of the university staff). Growth in terms of citations and
reputation of TSU, as well as other Russian universities, is "not
easy", and participation in the competitiveness improvement program helps
to achieve success.

"Conscious
activities on formation of reputation, recognition in the academic community
and among employers, requires absolutely new approaches. And in three years
that TSU is included into this program, we have rethought this new formulation
of tasks and this context, and our success is connected with the fact that we
purposefully worked on strengthening of positions of the university in the
international community", – the rector of TSU specified.
According
to him, in the choice of partners, creation of the international networks and
collaborations, the university relies on the model "Classical University
in Nonclassical Time" formed during the participation in the program.
Strengthening the position of TSU is also promoted by "the implementation
of the third role of the university, connected with the inclusion and
responsibility for the regional development both in the socio-cultural sphere
and in the economic one".
TSU and
Tomsk Polytechnic University since 2013 were included into the 5-100 project
and receive additional financing to increase international competitiveness. By
2020 within the framework of the project five universities of the Russian
Federation have to enter the top 100 of universities of the world.
