8 – RIA Tomsk. Tomsk State and Tomsk Polytechnic Universities (TSU and TPU)
have again improved their positions in the QS World University Rankings
(Quacquarelli Symonds), for the first time having risen on 323 and 386 lines of
the list of the best universities in the world, respectively, is reported on
the rating website.
Earlier it
was reported that TPU and TSU in 2013 entered the top 15 universities of the
Russian Federation, to which additional funding are allocated to improve
international competitiveness. By 2020, at least five Russian universities
should enter the top hundred universities of the world. In last year's QS
rating, TSU and TPU climbed from group 481-490 to 377 and 400 positions,
respectively.

According
to the QS website, in the new rating TSU takes 323rd place (35.7 points), and
TPU – 386th (31.3 points).
At the top
of the ranking there are still the US universities: Massachusetts Institute of
Technology, Stanford and Harvard Universities.
Among the
Russian universities Tomsk State University became the fifth, and Polytechnic
University - the tenth. In total 22 universities of the Russian Federation are
represented in the general rating. The best indicators, as well as the previous
year, are shown by Moscow State University (95th place), St. Petersburg State
University (240th place) and Novosibirsk State University (250th line).
The ranking
takes into account the academic reputation of the university (40% of the
result), ratio of number of teachers and students (20%), citation index (20%),
reputation among employers (10%), share of foreign students (5%) and teachers
(5%).
