TOMSK, Jun 13 – RIA Tomsk. Scientists of the International Laboratory of Vision Systems of Tomsk State University (TSU) developed a robot capable to survey the territories for chemical and radiation contamination and operate in autonomous mode up to 10 hours, the press service of the university said on Tuesday.

"The robot is designed to assess the potential hazards of various objects and territories. The presence of a gas analyzer and other measuring equipment allows for rapid analysis, quantitative and qualitative composition of mixtures in the air, identify various hazardous substances, including explosives", – the press service quotes the head of the laboratory Vladimir Syryamkin.

It is specified that the automated crawler-mounted platform is designed for nuclear industry enterprises and is able to operate autonomously without recharging the batteries for up to 10 hours. The information collected by the robot is transmitted online to the engineering control panel.

It is added that the robot also conducts video recording, including in the infrared range, that is, "sees" in the dark. If necessary, it can place tags of objects on the digital map, take samples of soil, snow, water and can equally easily move on land, snow or ice. It is specified that the gas companies, the Ministry of Emergency Situations and specialists of the nuclear industry are interested in developing.

"On the basis of this automated platform it is possible to create various modifications of robots, for example, for evacuation and rescuing people there is a version with a sliding platform and a loader is developed, and the device analyzing the vital functions of the body – breathing, heartbeat, and pressure, is included", – the press service quotes Syryamkin.

Earlier it was reported that laboratory specialists are developing an autonomous robotic platform for evacuating people and collecting dangerous items at rescue operations in places of man-made disasters.
