25 countries of the world were registered for participation in the world
championship on swimming in flippers at the moment which will take place this
summer in Tomsk, the press service of the regional department on youth policy and
sport reported on Wednesday.
Earlier it was reported that the board of
directors of the World Underwater Federation (CMAS) decided to hold a world
championship on swimming in flippers and marathon swims in flippers in Tomsk
from July 31 to August 6, 2017. According to the regional department of sport,
the application for participation in competitions are accepted till July 15.
"Today national teams from 25 countries
submitted applications for participation, among them are Colombia, Jordan,
France, Italy, Japan, Taiwan, Switzerland and other countries from four
continents – about 300 participants", – the press service quotes the
president of the regional federation of scuba diving Natalya Grechikhina.

It is added that two athletes will participate
in competitions from the Tomsk region, three more are in reserve. "The
list of residents of Tomsk can be increased after marathon competitions on open
water take place and the structure of the national team will be created",
– Grechikhina is quoted in the message.
It is noted that the ceremonial opening of the
competitions is planned for August 1. The ceremony will begin at 15:00 in
Governor's quarter in the center of Tomsk. Heats start since August 2:
competitive sessions will take place in the morning and in the evening.
Also it is reported that the competitions were
supported by 10 large Tomsk organizations among which are JSC Transneft —
Central Siberia, JSC Tomskoye pivo and LLC Tomlesdrev.
