TOMSK, Oct 17 – RIA Tomsk. Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) became the second among the Russian universities in the
subject rating Engineering and technologies of the Times Higher Education (THE)
Agency, having conceded superiority to Moscow State University; TPU entered
group 151-175 in general rating, the press service of the university reported
on Tuesday.
It is noted that experts estimated educational
environment of universities, volume of scientific research and income from
them, publication activity, development of the international cooperation. The
rating includes a wide range of narrow subject domains: general engineering,
electrical equipment and electronics, mechanical engineering and space
engineering, civil engineering and chemical engineering.
"Tomsk Polytechnic University get a high position
in the general rating, having entered group 151-175, and became the second
among the Russian universities, having conceded only to Lomonosov Moscow State
University. Thus, the Times Higher Education rating agency recognized TPU as
the best engineering (technical) university of Russia", – it is said in
the statement.
According to the press service, commenting the results
of the rating, the rector Petr Chubik noted that TPU entered the subject rating
THE in the field of engineering and technologies for the first time which is
basic and backbone for the university. Indicators on those disciplines in which
the university "has solid scientific reserves and traditionally is a
leader" are estimated: general engineering sciences, electrical equipment
and electronics, aerospace equipment and mechanical engineering, chemical
technologies.

"Results of the subject rating of THE demonstrate
that the Tomsk polytechnics have greatly added in research activity in these
directions in recent years. There were more noticeable publications in
authoritative scientific publications, the international popularity of our
scientists has grown, the number of joint projects with the leading research
centers of the world has increased", – Chubik told.
According to the THE website, Tomsk State University
was included into group 251-300 in the subject rating of Engineering and
technology , and into group 201-250 in Arts&Humanities.
Earlier it was reported that TPU considerably improved
positions in the annual rating of leading universities of the world according
to THE in 2017, having risen by 200 points – from group 501-600 to group
301-350, and became the third among
Russian universities. TSU kept positions, having remained in group
501-600.
The British magazine Times Higher Education publishes one of three most prestigious world
rankings of universities annually (along with the ratings QS World University
Rankings and Academic Ranking of World Universities) and also a number of
subject ratings, Arts & humanities, Business & Economics, Computer
Science, Engineering & technology, Life sciences, Physical sciences, Social
sciences are among them.
