TOMSK, Nov 23 – RIA Tomsk. Tomsk universities actively cooperate with universities and enterprises of
the BRICS countries that allowed to improve significantly positions in the
rating of Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). Rectors of TSU and TPU Eduard Galazhinsiky
and Petr Chubik commented data of the rating.
According to the data of the QS rating on BRICS countries (Brazil, the
Russian Federation, India, China and the Republic of South Africa) published in
the night of November 23, 2017, Tomsk State University (TSU) rose by 17 rating
points and got the 26th place in comparison with last year, and Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) rose by 15 positions and is at the 49th place now.
QS University Rankings: BRICS is the rating of the best universities of
Brazil, the Russian Federation, India, China and the Republic of South Africa.
It included 300 universities of these countries. Evaluation criteria:
reputation in the academic community, reputation among employers, ratio of scientists
and students, share of employees with scientific degree, number of
publications, quoting of publications, share of foreign teachers, share of
foreign students.
More students
According to Petr Chubik, quoted by the press service of the TPU, in any international
university ratings, the dynamics of upward movement is important for the
university, indicating that the university does not stand still, builds
capacity and improves development indicators.
"We rose by 15 positions, entered top-50 in the rating of QS: BRICS.
It is quite good, the rating of QS: BRICS differs from the general rating of
QS, in particular, the weight of indicators of internationalization (share of
foreign teachers and students) is reduced on whom Tomsk Polytechnic University
traditionally takes high positions in the world", – Chubik said.
"A number of important joint projects is implemented today within the
BRICS Network University which participant from Russia is TPU. Our university
is "Water Resources and Neutralization of Pollution" direction
coordinator of the international group of the Network University", – the
rector of TPU has told.
According to the university, TPU develops the master program "Quality
of Natural Waters and Water Treatment" together with Hohai University (China)
and National Institute of Technology Durgapur (India). Its graduates will be
engaged in the solution of the problems connected with water resources and
fight against their pollution and against providing the population with clear
water.
World-class university
The rector of TSU Eduard Galazhinsky considers that State University has
competently chosen the target markets and educational niches, having offered a
number of the directions, which are in the increased demand. It allowed TSU not
only to become the fourth among the Russian universities of the rating of QS:
BRICS, but also to rise from the 43rd by the 26th line of the rating.
"The breakthrough result in number of foreign students is achieved
thanks to the fact that TSU has competently chosen the target markets and
educational niches, having offered a number of the directions which are in the
increased demand: information technologies, economy, management and finance,
international relations, Russian as foreign", – Galazhinsky told.
He noted that the results of the rating prove once again prove that TSU is
a world university on which also responsibility for advance in world space of
all system of Russian education lies after becoming one of leaders of the 5-100
project.
The rector also added that TGU actively interacts with foreign partners –
the universities and schools, uses a resource of foreigners graduates of TSU
for involvement of foreign students. The huge role in the sphere of foreign
recruiting is played by the English-speaking website of TSU, which is
recognized as one of the best according to the Russian International Affairs
Council in 2017.
According to the university, TGU showed growth on other indicators of the
rating of QS: BRICS either. Therefore, the indicator of the academic reputation
rose – this factor makes 30% of the general assessment of a university. In
addition, estimates of educational activity of the university by employers were
improved that makes 20% of the general assessment in the rating.
Besides, the university showed growth of the indicator fixing the number of
scientific articles which fall on one scientific and pedagogical employee.
TSU is responsible for the organization of interaction for one of five
subject directions – "Ecology and Climate Change" within BRICS
Network University. Besides, Tomsk State University is a coordinator of
Russian-Indian Association of Universities.
