TOMSK, Dec
1 – RIA Tomsk. The compilers of one of the prestigious world rankings Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Best Student Cities index, assesses the attractiveness of cities for students, believe that Tomsk is in the top 100 of this rating due to the high concentration of young people, QS agency expert Daria Karzunina said at the international forum at TSU on Friday.
Earlier it
was reported that from November 30 to December 2 at Tomsk State University the
International Forum "Energy of Universities for Municipal and Regional
Development" was held. It brings together leading scientists from the US
and Europe, they discuss the prospects for the development of regions in the new
economy and the role of universities in the life of the city and the region.
The organizers – are the Tomsk region administration and Tomsk State
University.
On Friday,
experts from different countries within the framework of the forum discussed
the specifics of the QS Best Student Cities index rating, which has been
compiled over the past five years. Experts are trying to understand how
students choose a university and what role plays the city in which it is
located. In the rating participate only cities in which there are at least two
universities that are part of the university's QS rating, and the population
exceeds 250 thousand.
"The
rating reflects student life, so we are looking not only at the quality of
universities, but also of the cities". This year we introduced a new
criterion: asked students about their experience of studying in a city and
noticed that even smaller towns began to rise in rating. In Tomsk there live
more than 500 thousand people, but there are 100 thousand students, it is clear
that the youth atmosphere of the city attracts them", – Karzunina said.

level of tolerance, the demand for graduates from local and foreign employers.
