TOMSK, Dec
4 – RIA Tomsk. Rectors of two universities of Tomsk – Polytechnic and Medical – signed on Monday the agreement on the establishment of scientific and educational interdisciplinary center for medical engineering technologies and researches, the RIA Tomsk correspondent reports from the signing ceremony.
As the
rector of Tomsk Polytechnic University Petr Chubik told journalists, the center
will work in four directions: IT in medicine, biomedical technologies, medical
materials science and instrument making.
"Today
a doctor – is not just a white robe and an endoscop. It's a technically armed
specialist. Without the joint work of engineers and medical specialists it's
not possible to achieve major successes. There is not a hit about educational
component, it is developing successfully enough, but more about research work.
Now we widely open doors for cooperation and we designate four large-scale
areas", – Chubik told.
In turn,
the rector of Siberian State Medical University (SSMU) Olga Kobyakova agreed
with the colleague that in the modern world a breakthrough in medicine can be
done only at the junction of disciplines.

"There
have passed times when universities and scientific schools individually
invented. Now it is time to complement each other. The task of creating a
medical engineering school and the like is not to build a new building, to
introduce new rates. We work in those conditions and with those people,
who are there are. It is necessary not only to provide the site to young
scientists, but also to come up with a system of grants, internships and other
moments", – she said.
According to Kobyakova, the created center will allow the
Tomsk scientific and educational complex not to lag behind other regions and to
apply for federal projects and grants. The rector of SSMU cited the example of
the joint work of two universities in the field of Big Data.
"Now
this is a very breakthrough direction, and we want to unite our efforts, we
already have a certain reserve. As a medical university we provide the formulation
of tasks, the interpretation of demographic and medical indicators. In turn,
TPU specialists can ensure the competent analysis and processing of these big
data", – explained Kobyakova.
