TOMSK, Dec 8 – RIA Tomsk. Chief Representative of the European Union (EU) in Russia Markus Ederer
visited the Tomsk region and met the governor Sergei Zhvachkin on Friday; the
European diplomat will take part in opening of the festival of the European
film and visit the leading Tomsk universities, the press service of the region
It is specified that Markus Ederer is appointed the ambassador of the EU in
Russia in October, 2017. The Tomsk region became one of the first Russian
regions where he arrived with official visit, and the first region of Siberia.
The festival of the European film is opened in Tomsk on December 8 and lasts 10
"I am appeared to be in a new position two and a half months ago and
glad that the Tomsk region became the first region in Siberia where I pay a
visit and that we chose Tomsk as the venue of the festival of the European
film. Tomsk is a young, intellectual city, there is so many students here, and
it is one of the few islands of cooperation between the EU and Russia", –
press service quotes Ederer.
Development of direct contacts with representatives of universities and
scientific community of Tomsk became one of the purposes of the visit of the
ambassador, besides participation in the film festival; it is noted in the
message. During the short-term visit the ambassador will visit Tomsk State University (TSU) and Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU).
"The Tomsk region continues to adhere to the principle of openness
because a basis of our region are knowledge, education, development of the
human capital. We have close ties with all countries of the European Union, and
these are first of all contacts of our universities, especially close with the
universities of France, Germany, Holland, Austria.", – Zhvachkin's words
are cited in the message.
According to the press service, within the visit the new ambassador of the
EU in Russia met representatives of the economic block of the region
administration. Details of the meeting aren't disclosed.
