TOMSK, Dec 10 – RIA Tomsk. The International Ice Sculpture Festival "Crystal Tomsk" starts on Monday at Novosobornaya Square in Tomsk; sculptors from Russia, China, Serbia and Kazakhstan will turn ice blocks into figures of animals, birds, plants and natural elements, the representative of the mayor's office press service informed RIA Tomsk.

Earlier it was reported that the IV Ice Sculpture Festival "Crystal Tomsk" will be held at Novosobornaya Square in Tomsk from 11 to 16 December. Of the 300 participants from all over the world, 20 teams were selected, seven of which are foreign. The theme of the competition this year will be the forces of nature in Russian and Siberian folklore.

"On Monday, December 11, at 12.00 at Novosobornaya Square, the already beceme traditional "Crystal Tomsk" festival will be opened. From December 11 to December 16 sculptors from all over the world will create ice figures of animals, birds, plants and natural elements. The start to "Crystal Tomsk" will be given by the mayor Ivan Klein. Winners will be declared on December 16 at the city holiday the "Christmas tree-2018. Light!", – the interlocutor of the agency reported.

"Crystal Tomsk" – is one of the most spectacular winter events. Sculptors from different cities of the country and the world come to Tomsk in order to decorate the main city square with their skill. I invite all citizens and visitors to take part in the opening of the IV International Festival of Ice Sculpture", – the press service quoted Klein in the message.

It was also reported that "Crystal Tomsk" has been running since 2014. In December, the participants present their works for the competition, after which the ice sculptures remain at Novosobornaya until the end of winter. In 2015, which was declared the Year of Literature, the theme of the festival was the works of Alexander Pushkin, in 2016 – the Soviet film fairy tales by the director Alexander Rowe.
