TOMSK, Feb 8 – RIA Tomsk. Specialists of Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) will burn waste from the oil industry, wood processing, as well
as various household and office waste, to understand how to use them
effectively and profitable as fuel, the university press service reports on
Thursday.
According to the press service, a large number of industrial and domestic
wastes accumulated in the Tomsk region, most of which are waste from oil and
natural gas production, domestic and mixed water treatment, office garbage,
logging and timber processing products.
It is these waste that TPU scientists
suggest to use for the production of new fuel.
"We will study the heat of combustion, amount of energy needed for
effective ignition, amount of emissions from burning fuels, potential costs of
their preparation, transportation, storage ... By 2020 it is planned to
complete the project – to get a complete database", – the engineer of the
Heat-Mass Transfer Simulation Lab of TPU Ksenia Vershinina is quoted in the
message.

The accumulated database will help to understand how new types of fuels will be
effective, commercially viable, and also safe for the environment.
It is specified that the results of the research will allow to reveal the
advantages and disadvantages of new types of fuel in comparison with the most
widespread and environmentally dangerous fuel – coal. On the basis of the
created database it will be possible to develop and improve technologies for
the use of fuels from wastes, to predict the models of their ignition and
combustion.
