9 – RIA Tomsk. Radiophysics of Tomsk State University (TSU) plan to develop a
device to stimulate phantom touches, blows and sensations in online games by
2020; software and hardware complex affect skin with electrical impulses and
create a feeling of interaction between player and various objects, the press
service of the university reports on Monday.
It is
specified that the hardware and software complex can be used on simulators with
polimodal (polysensory) systems of information display, in 5D-cinemas, as well
as in online games. The project is supported by the "Umnik" program
of the Fund for Assistance to Small Innovative Enterprises, 500 thousand rubles
have been allocated for its implementation.
"The
work will be based on the technology of electro-tactile stimulation. With the
help of the device we will act on a certain area of the skin with electrical
signals ... At the same time, patterns of nervous activity are generated, which
entering the brain, form phantom illusory sensations", – the press service
quotes the developer of the project Andrei Kostorny.
According
to him, the complex will consist of a control unit, generating unit and matrix
of coaxial electrodes. The device will be adjusted for each carrier
individually. The closest analogues - are the GAMETRIX vibros, the 3rd Spacer
vest, the Tesla Suit virtual reality suit.
"The device
will work without connecting to the network, its weight will be less than 1.8
kilograms. While electrostimulation will make the sensations more vivid and
clear", – is emphasized in the message.
