Obtaining FSC certificates confirming legal origin of wood and
responsible forest management allows the Tomsk forestry and enterprises
of this sphere to enter ecologically sensitive markets of the abroad,
the head of the department of forestry of the Tomsk region Mikhail
Malkevich reported on Wednesday at a meeting of representatives of the
branch.

is a world-wide recognized sign which guarantees legal origin of wood
and responsible forest management. There are three of it: on forest
management, chain of deliveries and control of wood. According to the
department of forestry only 0,7 million hectares are certified from 28,8
million hectares of forest fund of the Tomsk region.
"Now
so-called ecologically sensitive markets were created. Demand for the
goods made without damage to the nature grows. In foreign countries the
buyer before buying production from wood, looks for the FSC sign... In
our region there are positive examples in this regard... Existence of
the certificate allows our forest product to enter such markets", –
Malkevich noted.
According
to him, at the moment three Tomsk enterprises have the existing
certificates on deliveries and forest management and one more – only on
forest management. The document of another three companies is suspended
for various reasons.
Malkevich
added that for each ruble invested in certification within five years
the state will gain about 15-20 rubles of income from receipts of small
and medium-sized enterprises which will go in this direction. At the
same time he noted that the region needs to go on the way of
certification of forestries, but not the enterprises of small and medium
business.
"If to say
about the place of application with what we will begin, then, most
likely, with three forest areas at the city of Tomsk where the woods are
located, the most sensitive in the social plan, in respect of
anthropogenic influence, there are tenants too. There is a big problem
of allocation of the wood for own needs of the population. Therefore
obtaining the certificate by forestry will remove the main part of
questions", – Malkevich explained, having added that also the
authorities will work with the companies whose certificates are
suspended.
