TOMSK, Apr 16 – RIA Tomsk. The Trans-Siberian school on high-tech physics started at Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) on Monday; according to world scientific experts,
its main task – is the transfer of knowledge to young people, which will
"pick up" these studies in the future, the correspondent of RIA Tomsk
reports from the opening.
Earlier it was reported that the five-day Trans-Siberian School on
High-Tech Physics at TPU will receive more than 100 participants. Within the
framework of the school there will be three sections. The first is for young
people. On the second scientists of the world scientific schools will read more
than 20 open lectures, on the third there will be a discussion about the role
of Russian universities in international mega-projects. The school is held in
English.
According to the employee of the Commission for Atomic Energy and
Alternative Energies of France Maxim Titov, this school is absolutely unique
for Tomsk and the entire Siberian region. It is named Trans-Siberian because
among the experts of world universities, which were engaged in its preparation,
there were representatives of Siberian universities.
"The school is aimed at allowing students to touch the completely
unique research that is being conducted at CERN and its technological complex
to understand how difficult projects are being implemented at CERN by
international collaborations consisting of thousands of people", – he
said.

According to Titov, the discoveries of CERN (European Organization for
Nuclear Research - Ed.) on High Energy Physics are widely used in everyday
life. One of examples – is the WWW (World Wide Web), created as a data
processing capability. In addition, these are particle acceleration
technologies that are used, for example, in solar batteries or for the
treatment of cancer (electronic, proton therapy). In the list of CERN
achievements there is a training of young people - every year about three
thousand PHD-students work there.
"In recent years, TPU entered a whole series of developments, in
particular, to upgrade the Large Hadron Collider. At the same time TPU uses its
strengths - engineering experience – and contributes to the development of
CERN. CERN appreciates this, this is why it's administrative board will come to
the school. The main goal of the school – is educational, because there is a
need to transfer the knowledge to young people", – said the former
graduate of TPU, employee of Holloway University in London Pavel Karataev.
