TOMSK, Apr 23 – RIA Tomsk. Tomsk State University (TSU) expanded participation in work on the
Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in the European Organization for Nuclear Research
CERN; TSU is the only Russian university entered collaboration of CMS (Compact
Muon Solenoid) and carry out works within subsystem of radiation resistant
detectors PPS, press service of university reports.
Earlier it was reported that
TSU scientists thanks to radiation resistant detectors developed by them have
entered into group of the ATLAS project, which is carried out on the LHC in
CERN. Within the experiment researchers are engaged in search of super heavy
elementary particles, such as Higgs boson. The university is a full member of
collaboration of ATLAS and the only representative of Russia in TOTEM
experiment.
"TSU entered
collaboration CMS on the LHC in CERN. Nearly 200 research organizations and
universities from 42 countries of the world are a part of CMS. TSU is the only
university from Russia which joined a subsystem of radiation resistant
detectors PPS in CMS", - it is said in the statement of the university.
It is specified that the super
detector CMS along with ATLAS is the largest universal experimental LHC
installation. Within the experimental CMS program TSU scientists investigate
elastic and inelastic interactions of protons and develop electronics of
radiation resistant detectors PPS. Their use significantly expands the capacity
of CMS in studying of fundamental properties of matter.

"Our group develops new
methods of ultraprecise registration of coordinates and time of high energy
particles by means of the new detectors PPS for work in the conditions of the
increased luminosity of LHC after planned modernization of the accelerator – we
actively participate in the analysis of data and operation of a subsystem of
PPS", – the press service quotes the head of the TSU group in CMS Vladimir
Ivanchenko.
It is noted that the university got new opportunities for students, graduate
students and young specialists of TSU to be engaged in the advanced basic
researches on the unique CMS installation with the introduction of TSU in
collaboration of CMS in CERN and confirmed the high level of researches in the
field of high energy physics which carry out TSU scientists in CERN.
