16 – RIA Tomsk. The Tomsk region governor Sergey Zhvachkin presented
ambassadors of the European Union (EU) great opportunities of the region in the
development of organic crop production; thanks to innovative approaches Tomsk
agrarians achieve high results and plan to arrange export to Europe, the press
service of the regional administration said on Tuesday.
According to
the governor, in the Tomsk region there is a large amount of land where
fertilizers have never been used and these lands for the region is a huge
agricultural resource where it is possible to develop organic farming, which is
so popular in Europe. This Zhvachkin told the heads of European diplomatic
missions, is said in the report.
"If in
the European countries suitable for organic farming are the land where
fertilizers have not been used for several years, then we have full of land on
which fertilizers have never been used", – the press service quoted
Zhvachkin.
He noted
that contrary to the popular opinion of Siberia as a zone of risky farming and
a harsh climate, the Tomsk region achieves high results through the use of
innovative approaches to the organization of agricultural production.

"We
are implementing 20 investment projects in the sphere of the agro-industrial
complex with a total investment volume of 11 billion rubles. This are meat and
dairy farming, plant growing, greenhouse farms development". More and more
our farmers set ambitious goals, including export of agricultural products to
Europe", – Zhvachkin told ambassadors.
He added
that the authorities of the Tomsk region strive to ensure high standards of
quality in the sphere of meat and dairy industry, to increase the
attractiveness of farming. "For this we not only study the experience of
European countries and train specialists there, but we also buy pedigree
livestock and equipment in Europe, we create breeding plants throughout the region".
Earlier it
was reported that in 2017 the Tomsk region remained the leader in the
productivity of cows and took the third place in terms of grain yields among
the regions of Siberia. According to the regional administration, local
agricultural enterprises produced products worth 34.4 billion rubles, which is
5 billion more than a year ago.
