TOMSK, May 21 RIA Tomsk. International laboratory "Systems of Technical Vision" of Tomsk State University (TSU) researchers developed a new volumetric scanning principle, which does not require object rotating in front of X-ray sensor and allows to "examine with X-rays" large parts, for example, wing of an airplane, is reported on the website of the university on Monday.

It is specified that a digital 3D X-ray tomograph was developed by the laboratory in 2014 for a subsidiary of Roscosmos to scan the internal structure of the satellites. However, for the scanning of dimensional objects, such as the wing or fuselage of the aircraft, the device was not adapted.

"In the process of working on a tomograph, we came to a new principle of scanning. If in the traditional apparatus there is a mechanical rotation of the object relative to the X-ray tube, during which the apparatus makes a large number of slices, then in the new device this rotation is replaced by an electronic one", – the head of the laboratory Vladimir Syryamkin is quoted.

According to him, the tomograph with the implemented principle of electronic rotation of the object can be used to scan such large objects as aircraft for microcracks and faults.

In addition, the TSU "Systems of Technical Vision" laboratory develops fast-acting algorithms for processing, analyzing and recognizing multidimensional information laboratory can be used to create security systems both in special areas (banks, industrial enterprises) and in all spheres of life, for example, to reduce the crime situation.
