TOMSK, May 23 – RIA Tomsk. The "Professors of Tomsk University" gallery, located in the
main building of TSU, replenished with ten new portraits of scientists who made
a special contribution to the development of the university, the press service
of the university said on Wednesday.
It is specified that the idea to create a portrait gallery and perpetuate
the memory of professors who worked at TSU and made a significant contribution
to education and science appeared in the late 1970s. The opening of the gallery
took place in 1980. In 2017 the gallery had 60 portraits. The new 10 portraits,
created by the honored artist of Russia Sergey Pavsky, were placed in the north
wing on the second floor of the main building of TSU.
"The project of the portrait gallery – is a very important story in
the life of the university, and now it continues. Today a large pool of
outstanding scientists has already been presented, the memory of which we
perpetuate and preserve in the history of the university", – the press
service quotes the rector of TSU Eduard Galazhinsky.
Among the professors whose portraits joined the "professorial"
gallery, there are outstanding mathematician Georgy Suvorov, physicist Sergey
Korovin, founder of the Tomsk school of philosophy of science Anatoly Sukhotin,
historiographer Boris Mogilnitsky, founder of the cities gardening principles
Valentine Moryakin and others.

"I want to say about one more idea – the possible development of this
project. Today technologies allow us to revive these portraits. And we are
creating a competence center in the field of virtual and augmented reality with
which we plan to launch the application in order for the gallery could become
interactive", – Galazhinsky said.
It is explained that the elements of augmented reality will be applied when
creating a mobile application which allows to "revitalize" the
portraits of university professors. Anyone can go to the portrait of interest,
and using a smartphone, to learn about the life of the scientist, his
scientific path and achievements.
Earlier it was reported that in 2018 TSU celebrated its 140th anniversary.
The festive events will be held in two stages: in May-June and September. In
particular, on June 1, a march of TSU students on Lenin Avenue will be held.
Also, TSU began to raise funds for a monument to the founders of the university
– professors Vasily Florinsky and Dmitri Mendeleev, which is planned to be
installed in September 2018 in the University Grove.
