TOMSK, Jun 7 – RIA Tomsk. Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) for five years rose in the QS rankings
(Quacquarelli Symonds) from 600+ group up to the 373rd line; the basis of TPU
promotion in the ratings is the demand for research results of the university
scientists, the rector of TPU Petr Chubik reported RIA Tomsk on Thursday.
Tomsk State University and Tomsk Polytechnic University (TSU and TPU) have
again improved their positions in the authoritative universities QS world
rankings (Quacquarelli Symonds): TSU is placed on the 277th line, thus entering
the top 300 of the world's top universities and becoming the fourth among the
universities of the Russian Federation, TPU occupies the 373rd place, entering
the top-10 of the Russian universities rating (the 10th place).
"TPU in the QS global university rating for five years rose from the
group of 600+ up to the 373rd place, showing each year the progressive movement
up in the world table of ranks. There were periods when we moved immediately up
to 80-90 positions, but the closer the top, the more difficult is the rise. We
are moving ahead in the conditions of intense competition among the leaders of
the world scientific and educational market", – Chubik said.
In his opinion, the basis of TPU promotion in the ratings is the demand for
research results of the university scientists.
"This is evidenced by the growing citation of TPU scientists’
publications in the most authoritative scientific journals. We see that the
popularity of the university is growing in the world, extends the base for
cooperation with the largest Russian and foreign scientific and educational
centers such as CERN, leading universities in Switzerland, France, Sweden,
China", – Chubik noted.
The rector of TPU added that the potential of the university is not fully
realized. "We will work to strengthen our positions, we will move forward",
– he emphasized.
Earlier it was reported that TPU and TSU were included into 15 leading
universities of the Russian Federation in 2013 to which additional financing is
allocated for increase in the international competitiveness. By 2020 not less
than five Russian universities have to enter one hundred of the best
universities of the world. TSU got 323 (in 2016 – 377) place in the QS rating
of 2017, and TPU – the 386th place (in the 2016th – 400).
