TOMSK, Jun 8 – RIA Tomsk.  Tomsk scientists together with the Indian colleagues work on technology of detection of cancer cells by means of a fluorescent tomography; this method is one of the perspective directions of optical diagnosis of tumors, but is insufficiently studied, the press service of Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) reports on Friday.

It is specified that Tomsk is presented by scientists of Research School of Chemistry & Applied Biomedical Sciences of Tomsk Polytechnic University, Siberian State Medical University in the project, and India is presented by specialists of the Indian Institutes of Technology (Kanpur). The international group works in TPU at the Symposium on Perspective Researches in the Field of Chemistry and Biomedicine now.

"The fluorescent tomography is one of the new directions of optical diagnosis of tumors. Special fluorescent markers in the form of difficult organic molecules, which are attached to malignant cages, are entered into an organism. Illumination of fabrics with ultra-violet radiation on a certain wavelength causes fluorescence of markers, their luminescence", – it is said in the statement.

It is specified that by recording these signals, it is possible to accurately determine the location of the tumor. According to experts, advantage of the method of the fluorescent tomography is its simplicity, low-invasiveness, high sensitivity and lack of the ionizing influence. It allows to find cancer at an early stage, and can be reused, including as a screening method.

However, the method is insufficiently studied therefore the advanced research teams develop the most optimum and effective technologies of the fluorescent tomography. The project of the Tomsk and Indian scientists is at the first stage now: experts are engaged in theoretical justification of technology, mathematical modeling. After that they will conduct researches in vitro on living cells.

Specialists of the Institute in Kanpur undertook the part of the project connected with information technologies. Development of the hardware for the developed technology if for polytechnics, the medical part of the project is for SSMU.
