The first group of Chinese students will study music at Tomsk State University (TSU) from 2019 on one of the most expensive specialties - "art of concert performance"; they will pass annual course at preparatory faculty, where will master Russian and profile subjects, the Vice Rector of TSU for International Affairs Artyom Rykun reported RIA Tomsk.
"For the first time in the history of TSU, a small group of Chinese students, five people, will study music at us. Since September 1, 2019 they will become first-year students of the Institute of Arts and Culture, now they are entering the preparatory faculty to study the Russian language (since the program is in Russian): in the first semester will learn only it, from the second will be added some profile subjects", - Rykun said.
He added that the teachers of IAC TSU were ready to teach in English, but then it would cost 6.5-7 thousand dollars a year (because of the costs of teachers' salaries), which is comparable to the prices of education in China and India. The Russian-language program at TSU costs 240 thousand rubles a year (less than 4 thousand dollars), this, by the way, is one of the most expensive specialties at the university, since it requires constant updating of musical instrument and care for them.

"Training in concert performance is in very demand in China, that's why it's a promising direction for TSU. Training at us is designed for five years, it will take place in a common group. In China, there is almost no demand for specialty - two-year master's programs are popular, however, students came to Tomsk", - Rykun said.
According to him, this was facilitated by the active promotion of the direction during the last two months:
"With the help of the leadership of Institute of Arts and Culture Capella of TSU, first of all Vitaly Vyacheslavovich Sotnikov, and the Department of Instrumental Performance found very good recordings - performances of the chapel and degree performances of piano graduates. We handed it over to our recruiters in China - together with a specially prepared booklet, where were described conditions, main program and success stories of graduates. And the result appeared immediately".
