TOMSK, Aug 7 – RIA Tomsk. Scientists of Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) intend to create the biggest in Russia ultrasonic robotic system for control of elements of the fusion reactor by 2020, which is based in the south of France within the international ITER project (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor), press service of the university reports on Tuesday.

It is specified that JSC NIIEFA named after D.V. Efremov, which is included into structure of Rosatom, acts as the customer of works. The volume of the contract for development of installation is 70 million rubles.

"The small TPU Intekh LLC innovative enterprise got the contract for creation of robotic ultrasonic system for quality control of details of the fusion reactor which is based in the south of France within the international ITER project. On... the scales and the importance the ITER reactor is compared to such projects as the International Space Station and the Large Hadron Collider", – it is said in the statement.

It is noted that polytechnics already delivered the small robotic ultrasonic tomograph for the ITER project in 2014, however now scientists are faced by a task to develop big installation – 2,5 meters in length, 2 meters width and 1,5 meters height. Development has to be executed by 2020. 

"Today such big robotic installations for ultrasonic control don't exist in Russia, and for us as for developers, such size is the challenge requiring original engineering solutions from us", – the acting head of School of Non-Destructive Testing & Security of TPU Dmitry Sednev is quoted.

It is reported that by means of the Tomsk tomograph quality of details of the first wall of the reactor – the barrier separating plasma from other elements of the reactor will be checked. The waves, which are let out by the converter, will pass through the object, interact with its internal structure and to reveal the latent defects and their exact characteristics.
