the direction of Tomsk State University (TSU) created a hardware and software
system for remote search and exploration of oil and gas fields in the Arctic,
the press service of the university reported on Tuesday.
Earlier it was reported that specialists of the
Siberian Physical-Technical Institute (SPTI) of the TSU in 2017 started to
develop a complex for remote search and exploration of oil and gas fields in
the Arctic. The principle of its operation is based on the spectral analysis of
gases - indicators of hydrocarbons. The installation will allow to reduce time,
labor and financial costs on minerals finding.
According to the press service, for implementation of
the project was created a consortium which along with TSU included V.E. Zuev
Institute of Atmospheric Optics of Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of
Science (IAO SB RAS), Scientific and Technical Center
"Geotekhfizpribor" of the Schmidt Institute of Physics of the Earth
of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IPE RAS) and the industrial partner –
Geostatus LLC. The project was implemented within the framework of the Federal
Targeted Programme for "Research and Development in Priority Areas of
Development of the Russian Scientific and Technological Complex for
2014-2020".
"The new tool for search of hydrocarbon deposits
is a combination of three portable seismic stations of low-channel profiling,
laser-spectroscopic system and information system providing data collection,
storage, processing and systematization", – is noted in the release.

It is added that seismic stations are also capable to
monitor situations associated with platform instability: landslides and changes
in reservoir pressure. The system allows to reduce the risks during drilling
and arranging of new fields.
"The hardware and software system can be used to
search, explore and monitor land and underwater hydrocarbon deposits, as well
as to develop the territories of the Arctic shelf. Potential consumers of the
developed product - are oil and gas enterprises", – specifies the press service
of TSU.
