Tomsk. About 20 people among whom Tomsk residents, Russian
regions representatives and foreigners aspire to post of Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) rector; main candidate will be chosen by supervisory board in
the second half of February, the deputy governor of the Tomsk region for
scientific and educational complex Lyudmila Ogorodova told reporters.
Earlier it was reported
that the authority of the TPU rector Petr Chubik expired on December 30, 2018,
and he did not stand for a new term. The academic council of the university
appealed to the Ministry of Education and Science with a proposal to appoint
him the president of TPU. Chubik currently is the acting rector.
According to Ogorodova,
since the head of the supervisory board is the governor of the Tomsk region
Sergei Zhvachkin, the authorities of the region are actively involved in the
discussion of candidates for the post of the rector.
"Selecting the
main candidate - is the task of the supervisory board. This should happen in
the second half of February. Applicants were watched - there were about 20 of
them: Tomsk ones, non-residents, even foreign ones who studied in Tomsk and
left", - -the deputy governor said.
She explained that in
the short-list there are no more than five names, and foreigners did not enter
it. And one of the likely candidates decided to enlist the support of the
university team before agreeing to consider his candidacy.
As RIA Tomsk was
explained in TPU, since the university participates in the federal
"5-100" project, the election of the rector is canceled in it. Under
the current statute of the university, all applicants for the post of rector
must submit documents, including the recommendation of the supervisory board to
the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation before March 1,
2019. Several candidates may receive a recommendation, but, as a rule, it is
only about one - the main candidate. Then the Ministry of Education and Science
will appoint a new rector.
