TOMSK, Feb 15 – RIA Tomsk. Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) intends to attract more than 1 billion rubles from investors
for the construction of new facilities in 2019–2023, one of which is a
dormitory for foreign students, the acting rector Petr Chubik said on Friday
presenting the university’s development program at the TPU Assembly.
Earlier it was reported that now more than 11 thousand
students study at TPU. More than three thousand of them - are visitors from 44
countries, including India, Indonesia, Nigeria, Egypt, Iraq, Yemen, Pakistan,
Algeria, Azerbaijan, Colombia, Congo, Korea, Tanzania, South Africa, Bolivia,
Brazil, Venezuela, Ghana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Israel, Laos, Czech Republic,
Ecuador, Kazakhstan, Vietnam, Mongolia.
On Friday, February 15, at the International Cultural
Center of the University was held the TPU Assembly, where Chubik made a report
on the results of the university’s work in 2018 and presented seven projects
for further development. Thus, the "Social and Scientific
Infrastructure" project implies a major overhaul of buildings and the
construction of new areas in the next five years.
"What we plan to repair and build: overhaul
repair the dormitory on Kirov, 4, build the second and the third phases of the
science park, build a dormitory for students studying for academic mobility
programs (foreigners), overhaul our technical library (Scientific and Technical
Library of Tomsk Polytechnic University - Ed.)", – Chubik said, speaking
at the Assembly.

He noted that for the construction of new facilities
in the period from 2019 to 2023, for which the project implementation is
designed, TPU will require borrowed funds for the first time. It is planned to
attract more than 1 billion rubles from investors.
Earlier it was also reported that the newest TPU
dormitory was built in 2015 at Usov Street, 15b. The 17-storey building can
accommodate 722 people. Its construction and equipment cost 450 million rubles.
The funds were allocated both from the university’s own revenues and the
federal treasury. Students began to move into a new TPU dormitory at the end of
December 2015.
Tomsk Polytechnic University – is the leading
technical university of the country. It's founded in 1896 as Tomsk
Technological Institute of Practical Engineers of Emperor Nicholas II. He
became the first engineering university in the Asian part of the country. Today
TPU enters the top 10 universities of Russia and the top 400 universities of
the world.
