TOMSK, Apr 9 – RIA Tomsk. The International Scientific
Symposium for Students and Young Scientists named after academician Mikhail
Usov "Problems of Geology and Mineral Development" to be held at Tomsk Politechnic University (TPU) from April 9 to April 12; participants – are more than a 1000 scientists, the
associate professor of the TPU Institute of Natural Resources Elena Pasechnik
told RIA Tomsk.
According to her, the international symposium "Problems of Geology and
Mineral Development" will be held at the base of the Tomsk Polytechnic
University (TPU) Institute of Natural Resources from April 9 to 12 for the 23rd
time. This year it is dedicated to the anniversaries of two prominent
polytechnics – the 120th anniversary of the birth of academician Kanysh
Satpayev and the 120th anniversary of the birth of professor Konstantin
Radugin. The opening of the symposium will be held on Tuesday, April 9, at
10.00 in the TPU International Cultural Center.
"The total number of participants at the event – is 1079 (Russian
participants – 969, foreign participants – 110) ... In 2019, reports of
participants from countries such as Algeria, Venezuela, Vietnam, Ghana, Egypt,
Indonesia, Republic of Kyrgyzstan, China, Mongolia, Serbia, the Republic of
Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan are submitted", – said Pasechnik, adding that students
and young scientists from more than 20 Russian universities will represent
Russia at the symposium.
The interlocutor of the agency noted that 19 sections will work at the
symposium. Scientists will discuss topics such as the improvement of methods
and technologies for prospecting and exploration of mineral resources,
development of innovative methods for studying the Earth’s interior and
prevention of global catastrophes, creation of new methods for assessing
deposits, and others. In each section there will be a competition for the best
scientific report.

According to Pasechnik, a geological quiz will also take place at the
symposium. In addition, participants are scheduled to have excursions to the
Siberian Botanical Garden, Museum of the History of Rare and Ancient Books,
Exhibition Center for Modern Scientific Achievements of the TPU, Museum Office
of academicians Vladimir Obruchev and Mikhail Usov, and innovative scientific
and educational centers.
Tomsk Polytechnic University – is the leading technical university of the
country. It was founded in 1896. It became the first engineering university in
the Asian part of the country. Today TPU enters the top 10 universities of
Russia and the top 400 universities of the world. At Polytechnic University
students from 58 countries are studying. 352 professors, including foreign,
more than 1000 candidates of science teach and work at the university.
