© Валерий Доронин TOMSK, Apr 11 – RIA Tomsk. The first ever picture of a real black hole is the experimental
proof of the correctness of Einstein's theory, the associate professor of the
Faculty of Physics of Tomsk State University (TSU) Vyacheslav Tamarov told RIA
Tomsk on Thursday.
As it is reported by "Izvestia",
astrophysicists scientists for the first time in the history received the image
of the black hole event horizon. The region is located in the active galaxy
M87, which is 53 million light-years from Earth. The images were taken in April
2017 using the Event Horizon Telescope, which is a collection of eight powerful
radio telescopes from different countries.
"This is the experimental proof of the Albert
Einstein's theory – the theory of relativity. This one of the greatest physical
theories is more than 100 years old. It predicts a lot, these predictions are
constantly confirmed by experiments. Here is another confirmation, powerful
enough", – Tamarov said.
According to him, the published image of a
supermassive black hole located in the center of the galaxy M87 – is an additional
confirmation of the theoretical conclusions about the existence of black holes.
“We only indirectly imagined what is it – a black
hole. Theoretically, it turns out that such objects should exist, and we did
not see it directly. And here it is clear that there is a shadow, something
dark”, – the researcher noted.
He specified that a black hole – is one of the objects
of the Universe, which contains many different components. "For example,
stars are born from gas-dust matter, shrink into clouds, then a star appears
and it begins to shine independently, radiating energy. It lives long and dies
at the end, turning into one of three types of compact objects. The most
massive stars turn into black holes", – the interlocutor of the agency
added.
