TOMSK, Apr 12 – RIA Tomsk. Ceremonies dedicated to the
120th anniversary of the Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan founder, Kanysh
Satpayev, who was educated in Tomsk, are held in Almaty; the delegation of the
university – Alma Mater of the academician – Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU)
takes part in the celebration, the press service of the university reported on
Friday.
According to the university, festive events dedicated
to the 120th anniversary of the Academician Satpayev, who was educated at Tomsk
Polytechnic University, are taking place in the Republic of Kazakhstan. Along
with representatives of the Kazakh Ministry of Education and Science, National
Academy of Sciences and Satpayev University, a delegation of Tomsk
polytechnicians takes part in the events dedicated to the anniversary.
"Representatives of the university presented to
their Kazakh colleagues a book published in TPU, - "Student Years of
Kanysh Satpayev in Tomsk", as well as a collection of archival documents
containing unique, never published materials, - documents from the personal
files of students and employees of Tomsk Technological Institute, whose names
are strongly connected with the name of Kanysh Imantaevich", – is said in
the message.
It is noted that Satpayev is one of the most prominent
graduates of TPU. In 2008, at the Alley of Geologists to him was erected a
monument, the university has a nominal audience of the scientist, and in the
TPU museum a special section is devoted to the first president of the Academy
of Sciences of Kazakhstan. Subsequently, many graduates of the Tomsk
Polytechnic University became colleagues and associates of Satpayev in the
Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan organized by him.

geological specialization - prospecting and exploration for copper ore

Kanysh Satpayev entered the Mining Department of Tomsk
Technological Institute in 1921. The student liked to attend lectures of
geologist Mikhail Usov and physicist Boris Weinberg. He closely communicated
with fellow student Nikolai Kamov, who later created unique Ka helicopters, as
well as Arkady Ivanov, who became president of the Ural branch of the USSR
Academy of Sciences. In 1926 Satpayev successfully graduated from TTI and
became the first certified geologist in Kazakhstan.

After completing his studies, Satpayev was engaged in
organizing and conducting the first stationary geological exploration work at
the copper Zhezkazgan and coal Baikonur deposits, which initiated the
systematic identification of mineral reserves in the entire Zhezkazgan-Ulytau
region. By 1937, explored reserves of copper allowed to call Dzheskazgan the
largest copper deposit in the world.
On February 13, 1938, the Order of the People's
Commissariat of Heavy Industry was issued on the construction of the Dzhezkazgan
Mining and Metallurgical Combine. In 1941, K.I. Satpayev is appointed director
of the Geological Institute of the Kazakh Branch of the USSR Academy of
Sciences, and a year later he becomes the head of this department – the future
Academy of Sciences of the Republic. The official opening of the Republican
Academy was held in 1946. In June 1946, Satpayev was elected its first
president.
