TOMSK, Apr 15 – RIA Tomsk. The jury chose the name Nyrok (Dive) for a baby seal which will be
the talisman of the Russian Finswimming Championship in Tomsk; the contestant
who first proposed this name option will receive a cash prize and tickets to
the competition, the press service of the regional administration said on
Monday.
Earlier it was reported that residents of the Tomsk
region offered to give the name of the official symbol of the Russian
Finswimming Championship, which will be held in Tomsk in May. The championship
mascot was chosen baby seal – belek. It was reported that the winner, who
offered the best name, will receive a cash prize of 3 thousand rubles, as well
as a personal invitation to two persons to all championship competitions.
"The jury reviewed more than 200 applications and
unanimously chose the name Nyrok (Dive) for a baby seal – the mascot of the
50th Russian Finswimming Championship, which will be held in Tomsk from May 15
to 20", – is said in the statement.

It is added that the name Nyrok (Dive) was suggested
by several people at once. Olga Ivanova will receive souvenirs and a cash prize,
her application came before the others. All other participants who offered this
name will also receive souvenirs with the symbols of the 50th Russian
Finswimming Championship and invitation cards to the competitions.
It is noted that among other versions of the name
Lastik become one of the most popular, but this name has already been given to
the otter-mascot of the world junior swimming championship in 2017. Also Tomsk
citizens suggested to call a baby seal Shustrik, Lastenysh, Baikal, Snow and Snowflake,
Siberian, Swim, Weasel, Timka, Kroshik, Tomik and Andre.
"The whole families participated in the
competition, and we are very pleased that the task to come up with a name for a
pretty baby seal found such a response among the residents of the Tomsk region.
The competition will begin in a month, we will be happy to see everyone in the
stands of the Water Sports Center "Zvezdniy", – the press service
quotes the president of the regional Federation of Underwater Sport Natalya
Grechikhina.
