TOMSK, Jun 13 - RIA Tomsk. A student campus with 20 thousand places will be built on the left bank of the Tom and connected to the existing buildings of Tomsk universities by a cable-stayed pedestrian bridge; Tomsk will hold competition to develop architectural concept of the campus, the governor Sergei Zhvachkin said at the opening of the Architectural Forum on Thursday.
Earlier it was reported that at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2019), the administration of the Tomsk region, the VEB State Corporation and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation signed an agreement on the construction of a modern student campus in Tomsk on 20000 places. It will become a joint facility of all six Tomsk state universities.
"I consulted with our architects and builders, rectors and students. Together, we decided that there is no better place for a new student campus than on the left bank of Tom ... On the left bank there is scope and there are no restrictions for designers and future residents. And we will connect the two banks with a cable-stayed pedestrian bridge, which will be very close to the Communal (bridge)", - Zhvachkin said.
According to the governor, in addition to modern educational buildings and dormitories, there will be sports facilities, public spaces for education and creativity, technology and natural parks in the campus. An international competition will be announced for the development of the architectural and planning concept for the future campus.

"I officially announce the international competition for the best architectural and town planning concept of a student campus. I invite all the leading architectural studios in Russia and abroad, invite each of you to embody the most daring ideas in this project. And the project which will be chosen by expert community and the youth themselves will win", - Zhvachkin told.
As it was previously reported, from 12 to 15 June 2019, in Tomsk takes place the Architectural forum, in which take part architects from 40 regions and 16 cities of Russia. Within the framework of the Forum there will take place the congress of the main architects of the regions of the Russian Federation, as well as the XIX architectural festival "Architecture in Siberia".
It was also previously reported that the student's campus will be created in Tomsk within the framework of the Education national project using the mechanism of public-private partnership.
