TOMSK, Jul 21 – RIA Tomsk. Symposium with participation of leading scientists in field of sciences about the earth, which opened at Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU), helps research teams of Tomsk to create new collaborations with world institutes and universities; projects solving problem of drinking water pollution can become result, organizers of event consider.
Earlier it was reported that from July 21 to July 26 TPU accepts the 16th International Symposium on Water-Rock Interaction (WATER-ROCK INTERACTION-16). It is one of the largest international events in this scientific area, which is held once in three years under the auspices of the International Association of GeoChemistry. This time the right to carry out the symposium was acquired by TPU. The symposium was carried out in Russia only once – in 1995 before.
"The main goal of the symposium was to involve a large number of foreign scientists to Tomsk, to create new scientific communications and collaborations. I think, it will be the most important result in our event", – the secretary general of the symposium Natalya Guseva told journalists.
According to the first vice rector of TPU Mekhman Yusubov, Tomsk acquired the right to hold this significant event including thanks to scientific base of the Polytechnic University.
"The TPU scientific base is an important factor of the choice of Tomsk by the center of carrying out the symposium. We accept more than 260 participants from the most different countries. <...> Water quality which is defined by a number of processes, geochemical, first of all is important for all of us. The main problem today is pollution of water as a result of its interaction with rocks and as a result of human activity", – he told journalists.
According to Yusubov, discussion of this problem and possible scientific collaborations of participants of the symposium can give new projects for the solution of problems of water pollution.

According to organizers, scientists from many foreign countries participate in the symposium. "The biggest delegation is from China, USA and Canada. Also scientists of Spain, Italy, Great Britain, France, the Republic of South Africa, Brazil, Mexico arrived here", – Guseva specified.
Earlier it was also reported that geologists, hydrogeologists, geochemists, volcanists participate in the symposium WATER-ROCK INTERACTION-16.
Within a week representatives of the international scientific community will discuss the most relevant aspects of interaction of the water breed system, questions of formation of oil and gas fields, interaction of water and breed during the developing and operation of oil and gas fields, global changes of the environment, geochemistry of marsh waters and so on in the Tomsk Polytechnic University.
