TOMSK, Aug 1 – RIA Tomsk. Tomsk took the 73rd place in
the ranking of the best student cities of the world in 2019 and became the
third after Moscow and St. Petersburg from Russian cities, rising one line
compared to last year, is reported on the website of QS (Quacquarelli Symonds),
which releases one of the most respected world university rankings.
On the QS website it is specified that when compiling
the rating, six criteria were taken into account: University Rankings (rating
of local universities), Student Mix (international student's structure),
Desirability (attractiveness of the city), Employer Activity (activity of
employers), Affordability (financial accessibility) and Student View (opinion
of students). Out of the Russian cities only four cities entered the top 100.
In 2018 Tomsk took the 74th place.
"One of the oldest cities of Siberia and the
administrative center of the Tomsk region, Tomsk can become the ideal student
city for snow lovers. A small, quiet university town with a large student population,
which has lively cafes, art spaces and which is especially famous for its
picturesque "gingerbread" decor, which can be found in its
traditional wooden architecture", – is said on the QS website.
The cost of foreign students to receive education in
Tomsk QS estimated at 2.6 thousand dollars.
According to QS, out of Russian cities Tomsk was ahead
of Novosibirsk (the 92nd place), losing to Moscow (the 23rd line) and St.
Petersburg (the 66th place). Other Russian cities were not included in the top
100. At the same time, Tomsk became the fourth of all cities in the world in
terms of "economic accessibility of education" and the 90th in terms
of employer activity.
It is especially noted that two high-ranking
universities are located in the city - Tomsk State (TSU) and Tomsk Polytechnic
(TPU) universities. According to the results of the ranking-2019, the best
student cities, like a year ago, are called London, Tokyo and Melbourne.
Earlier it was reported that in the QS-2019 ranking
TSU took the 268th place, having risen nine positions in a year and entering
25% of the strongest universities of the world, it is in the 4th place among
the Russian universities. TPU has the 387th place in the world and the 11th
among the Russian universities.
