research on the past of the Earth and how it helps in the search for life on
other planets, the press service of the university reported.
It is specified that Timothy Lyons is one of the leading scientists of the
world, the results of the research of his scientific group regularly appear on
the pages of Nature, Science and other high-rating journals. The main
scientific interests of the researcher are related to astrobiology, geobiology,
the history of the Earth and the search for life outside the solar system.
"(Wednesday) On September 4, the Distinguished Professor of
Biogeochemistry, a member of the University of California who heads NASA
Astrobiology Institute's "Alternative Earths" team, Timothy Lyons,
will give an open lecture at TSU. The speech of the foreign scientist will be
devoted to the study of the deep past of the Earth and how the obtained data
help to search for alien life", – the message says.

It is added that the Lyons group developed tools to restore ephemeral
landscapes of lost worlds using chemical markers, "locked" in ancient
rocks. These stone archives are rich in direct and supposed traces of ancient
life known as biomarkers. They are used by NASA in search of life on the
planets of our solar system and beyond. At the lecture, Timothy Lyons will
share the results of his research.
The lecture will be held in English with a parallel translation in the
conference hall of the main building of TSU (Lenin Street, 36, audience 229).
