Tomsk. Students of the Tomsk Polytechnic University
(TPU) began training in the updated master's program Big Data Solutions, which
was developed by specialists of the university together with experts of
Microsoft; this program will allow to train specialists in the field of
promising IT-directions, the press service of the university reported on
Thursday.
Earlier it was reported that
TPU opened a new English-language profile of master's degree "Big Data
Solutions" within the direction "Software Engineering" in 2017.
"Since September students
have started their studies on the updated master's program at the Tomsk
Polytechnic University developed jointly with experts of Microsoft... The focus
will be on big data technologies... The educational program Big Data Solutions
will give the opportunity to the university to train specialists in the field
of promising IT-directions," – the message says.
It is added that there are
free online trainings in Microsoft Teams on modern technologies for teachers
working on the program, including working with the cloud platform Microsoft
Azure within the disciplines "Machine learning," Intelligent analysis
of web-data, "Distributed systems and cloud computing".
"Our main goal is to
train students at the highest professional level on breakthrough technologies:
machine learning, big data, cloud computing and so on. And we are glad to
cooperate in this project with Microsoft, which has a lot of experience and
expertise in the development of innovative technologies, "– Dmitry Sonkin,
Director of the School of Computer Science & Robotics of TPU said.

It is noted with reference to
the head of the direction of work with organizations of education and science
Microsoft in Russia Elena Slivko-Kolchik that modern technologies, such as the
Internet of Things and big data, have become an integral part of everyday life.
"We are glad that Russian
universities follow international trends and provide students with world-class
educational services. The universities themselves will give new opportunities
for the development of scientific and research activities,"– her words
quoted in the message.
Big Data is a collection of
technologies that are designed to perform three operations: handle large data
volumes compared to "standard" scenarios, be able to work with
ever-increasing amounts of data, and "work with structured and poorly
structured data in parallel in different aspects."
Earlier it was also reported
that TPU launched 16 new master's programs in 2019, including three in English:
Nuclear Science and Technology, Materials Science and Physics. All new programs
are narrow-profile and practice-oriented. Specialists who prepare for these
programs are in demand both in Russia and abroad.
